FASANOC winners

Fiji's sprint queen, Makelesi Bulikobo-Batimala, and powerlifter, Eliesa Irava, were the big winners when they scooped the 2007 male and female athlete of the year prizes at the FASANOC Awards at the Tradewinds Conventional Centre last month.

It was Bulikiobo's second award. She also won the best female sports award at the recent Sports Council Awards. Bulikiobo is the lone Fijian athlete to qualify for August's Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

She recently created history when she won the 200 metres in the Australian Athletics Championship, a first for Fiji.

Irava won three gold medals and a silver while breaking a Commonwealth Championship record in his weight category.

He won silver at the South Pacific Games in Samoa.

Fiji National Rugby League scooped three awards. Apart from the sports organization of the year, president Peni Musunamasi, won the administrator of the year and vice president, Tomi Finau the volunteer of the year award.
