Highlanders bank on Rotuman lad

NAITASIRI will be banking on old warhorses and upcoming players like Rotuman lad Samuela Anise to continue the legacy of the top rugby side when they meet next week.

The once undisputed champions of national rugby will meet Nadi at the National Stadium on June 20 and the former Naitasiri Under 21 and Highlanders Under 21 skipper will be playing at lock.

Naitasiri Rugby official Viliame Kanatabua said it was only three years ago when the father of the Nasinu lad brought him to Naluwai to play rugby for the champion rugby side.

"He started to play for the Naitasiri colts that year and made his way up the ranks to the senior side today," Kanatabua said.

"The year after his debut he was skipper of both the Naitasiri Under 21 side and the Suva Highlanders Under 21 side that both won their respective titles that year.

"So he comes with a lot of history and a lot of respect and is one of our upcoming players that we are developing."

This year Anise played for the Suva Highlanders and the Fiji Barbarians and was bracketed to play for the national side if Wame Lewaravu did not turn up.
