Sorby leads team to victory

by Emoni Narawa

ACE goal shooter and national netball rep Cecelia Sorby played a decisive role to help her Sarafui team walk away as netball champions during the Rotuman Day competition at Suva Grammar School yesterday.

Sarafui were undefeated on the final day upsetting Ra'esea 41-8, Moiro 22-20 before walloping G/Ville 27-4 in the final round robin.

Sorby did not feature for her Suva II side in the MH Netball tour quarterfinals on Saturday but instead played a commanding role with her goal shooting accuracy.

In the rugby competition, Satarua won both A and B grades while Ra'esea took out the volleyball competition.

Sarafui was crowned the overall winner of the tournament. Rotuma Sports Council president Rupeni Fonmanu said they accomplished their goal for the two-day tournament.

"The tournament went well according to what we planned out. There were a lot of talents and we can see that we have future national reps in Rotuma."

He said each club has their own sponsors and they would want to attract a tournament a major sponsor in the future.

A few Rotuman to have donned the national jumpers are Maggie Erasito, Ravai Fatiaki, Lucy Yakapo, Lisa Faktaufon, Bernadette Ramafono, Graham Dewes, Victor Atalifo, Elaijie Erasito and Paul Erasito.

He added that would want to take the sport to another level next year.
