Fiji Rotuma Sports Council’s
2008 October Games
We completed our games this year with an awesome showcase
of local talent in rugby and netball. Despite all our difficulties
with finances, traveling, corporate support, etc. the FRSC committee gave
the green light to Satarua Sports Club to co-host the 2008 October Games.
We wish to acknowledge the New Zealand team’s great effort to participate
in this year’s FRSC October Games--not only to participate but to compete
very strongly in rugby. Thanks also to our westerns clubs, Moiro of Lautoka & Grandville
of Nadi for coming to the competition. The FRSC October Games were officially
opened by chief guest Fuata Fakraufon, and trophies were presented at the

Satarua tops the lot
SATARUA was once again crowned champions of the annual Rotuma Sports
Day which was held in Suva last weekend.
After retaining the men's rugby A Grade title and also winning the netball
B Grade, Satarua were declared the overall winner.
The Satarua rugby team had another successful tournament and managed
to take home the trophy for the fifth consecutive year.
Rupeni Fonmanu, president of Satarua club said the inclusion of the
Panapasa brothers helped Satarua sail through their round robin competition.
"They not only had the services of the two Panapasa brothers who
play for the Nadera Panthers rugby league team but there were also some
other good players like Ricco Panapasa and Tony," Fonmanu said.
In netball Sarafui Club from Suva took out the top honors in the A Grade.
"Last year Sarafui won both the A and B Grade but this year Satarua
managed to force their way through to win the B Grade."
Fonmanu said they were happy with how the tournament was run but he
believed that more can be done to improve the image of the tournament.
""There is a lot to be done as we need to expose the talents
of our young people in the various sports they participate in."
""That can only be done if everyone from the Rotuma Council
to the various clubs around country work hand in hand in organising the
event."
Five teams took part in the anuual meet.
