Dewes steps up

REMEMBERED for his winning try against Wales at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, prop Graham Dewes is now a senior statesman in the Flying Fijians.

Head tussle ... Graham Dewes clears the ruck during a team training in Nadi yesterday

He has just signed a deal with the Counties Manukau to play in the 2009 Air New Zealand Cup.

Dewes said he was ready to do what he knows best and help Fiji win the Pacific Nations Cup for the first time.

"I am just focussing on my job and want to help the team," Dewes said.

"It is great to be back in the team and while there are a lot of new and older players, we will work together to get the results."

Dewes is likely to start in the front row and said the team would have to gel quickly in order to have success.

He is in home territory with Ravai Fatiaki, who is also of Rotuman extraction.

"Last year it was Deryck Thomas and yes it is great to have him on board," he said.
