Army wins Suva cricket opener

ARMY opened the Suva Cricket League competition with a convincing win over Sarafui at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

Suva Cricket secretary Ashney Singh said the new season started well as all teams came well prepared.

Weather connditions only permitted the opening two games in the morning while the remaining games were called off because of the heavy rain.

"It was just unfortunate that heavy rain fell in Suva in the afternoon because we expected another two good games after lunch," he said.

Singh said in the first game the soldiers from Delainabua opted to bat first after winning the toss and scored 189 runs after losing seven wickets.
