Ra'esea on target

By Kalesi Mele

RA'ESEA look to be the front-runners of the Rotuma Games after showing fine form in three sporting disciplines at the conclusion of the first day of competition yesterday.

Fiji Rotuma Sports Council president Paul Kafonsaka said other than competing the annual Rotuma Games was usually held to get members of the Rotuman community together.

"This is our chance to mingle and learn more about our brothers and sisters from across the country and from overseas as well," he said.

"In a way the Games has been fruitful because not only does it help us to reconnect, competition on a yearly basis is getting tougher and it helps us improve our standard of play."

In the men's competition Ra'esea dominated in volleyball, touch rugby and rugby.

Kafonsaka added Sarafui were major contenders for the netball title after winning all of their pool matches on day one while Granville were favourites for the women's volleyball division.

Competition continues tomorrow at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
