The Hanua volleyball team, comprising Rotuman players in the country, is making waves in the Suva Volleyball scene.

Both the women’s and men’s teams recently joined the Suva Volleyball weekly club games, one of which was held at the Multipurpose Courts in Laucala yesterday.

According to team organiser Rinu Waselei, the Hanua volleyball team has been playing regularly since 2022.

Their games are a significant event in Rotuma, showcasing the talent of local players and fostering a love for the sport.

“Our participation in the Suva Volleyball weekly club games is a stepping stone towards competing in larger tournaments across Fiji and we are working towards it,” said Waselei.

She stressed the Hanua volleyball team consisted of young players who are focussed on learning and improving with each competition.

“This is our first participation in the Suva volleyball club games it is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and hone our skills against other talented teams,” she said.

The team organiser expressed gratitude for the invitation to join the Suva volleyball weekly club games, acknowledging the wealth of talent present in the Suva team.

The Hanua volleyball outfit is eager to learn from other teams and is committed to making the most of their time in the competition.

In their appearance yesterday, the men’s team scored a victory in their first pool game against Naqaseqase Brothers by two sets to one but lost in their second game by the same scoreline.
