Rotuma Island was visited by a ham radio expedition team from 27 September to 7 October and introduced amateur radio to Rotuma High School by donating and setting up a ham radio station. Seventeen students and four staff members went through a training program in ham radio, thus initiating a ham radio club in the school with license number 3D2RI [3 delta 2 Romeo India]. We believe we are the first school in Fiji to be involved in amateur radio.
The resources donated by the Ham Radio Expedition Team included cash, an antenna, a head phone, a laptop and a radio transmitter (SSB) with foot pedal.
The school hosted dinner for the ham radio expedition team and the crew members of the Island Dancer II to show their appreciation. The school is seriously considering extending this facility to those in the community interested in amateur radio.
