DIVE TRAINING & SEA-GRASS SURVEY METHODS TRAINING

Objective: To equip the island volunteers in SCUBA training essential for the Rotuma Coral Reef Survey.

Background Information: Four island volunteers are identified to travel to Suva to be trained in SCUBA Diving and in basic coral reef survey techniques. Accommodation and travel allowance is provided for the 5 island youths. Dive Training will be at the Marine Studies, USP and carried out by a LäjeRotuma Technical Adviser and MSP Dive Officer Fiu Manueli. Upon arrival, a diving medical examination will be carried out in Suva for fitness purposes.

Schedule: Government boat during Rotuma Day on May 13 2003 traveling to Suva and will stay for 2 weeks until the schedule of latest boat in May 2003.

Criteria for selection of the 4 LäjeRotuma Island volunteers: ¸

  • A dedicated and committed island volunteer in previous LäjeRotuma events;¸
  • Prove to be a responsible and mature individual, who would set priority to personal safety and to the safety of others;¸
  • Prove to be respectful and will adhere to any rules set by LäjeRotuma for the purpose of protecting its credibility and enhancing its programs with the island community;¸
  • Will provide proof of his/her health by the Rotuma Medical Officer, before leaving Rotuma for the dive training.¸
  • Please note that the 4 identified island volunteers should be representative of the various districts, if possible.
